Originalmente lançado no ano 2000 para o Neo Geo Pocket The Last Blade: Beyond The Destiny é o primeiro e único jogo da franquia dos arcades lançado para o portátil da SNK.
Com relativo sucesso no Neo Geo Pocket, o jogo chega em um “port” para o Nintendo Switch com a proposta de atrair o jogador por conta da nostalgia e também pela qualidade reconhecida da SNK em produzir ótimos jogos de luta.
Mas será que um jogo com 20 anos de idade, lançado para um console portátil ainda possui um apelo relevante e é capaz de atrair novos jogadores para a franquia? Isso é o que vamos detalhar e discutir nas próximas linha deste Review.

Beyond The Destiny é um clássico jogo de luta versus que tem como diferencial o combate utiliziando armas brancas, muito parecido com a franquia Samurai Shodown, também da SNK.
Apesar da limitação na quantidade de botões do Neo Geo Pocket (D-Pad + A + B) Last Blade: Beyond Destiny tem bastante profundidade e promete agradar os jogadores mais experientes com jogos de luta. É surpreendente que um jogo com tanto tempo desde o seu lançamento tenha em sua jogabilidade elementos que fazem partes de qualquer jogo atual. Dash, Counter, Especial, Combos e personagens balanceados estão presentes. Não à toa a SNK ainda hoje é relevante no cenário competitivo com os jogos de luta.
Antes de iniciar a luta precisamos escolher qual o tipo de especial que vamos utilizar para o personagem durante todo o Gameplay. São duas opções, uma baseada em velocidade e outra baseada em força. Cada personagem possui seus próprios ataques especiais e saber o momento certo de utilizar é a chave para obter uma boa vantagem em cada round.
Os comandos básicos são de fácil aprendizado. Cada personagem possui apenas dois comandos: um botão de ataque forte, normalmente um ataque com arma, e um ataque fraco, normalmente associado a um chute rápido. Contudo não se engane, Last Blade tem uma complexidade muito bacana com diversas opções de movimentos para serem executados durante a luta. Por isso uma passada rápida pelo manual do jogo disponível no menu do emulador é fundamental para aprender todas as técnicas.
Sim, basicamente a versão do Nintendo Switch roda em cima de emulação, e como todo bom emulador temos algumas opções disponíveis no menu de controle acessível apertando o botão “–“ no controle do Switch:
Reset: Efetua um Soft Reset no jogo;
Controls: Permite o remapeamento dos botões no jogo;
Display: Disponibiliza para o jogador opções de molduras para a tela com aparências de modelos e cores diferentes de Neo Geo Pocket (8 Modelos no total). Pode-se também desativar a moldura e manter somente a tela do jogo. Aqui também temos uma opção de filtro para aproximar o visual ao que era exibido em uma TV de tubo.
Manual: São as artes originais do manual com muita informação sobre os elementos na tela e sobre cada um dos personagens, contendo inclusive as listas de golpes.
Rewind: É poossível voltar alguns segundos no gameplay. Funciona como um Save State limitado pelo tempo.
Language: Não é um menu propriamente dito, mas é possível alternar entre inglês e japonês.
Modos de jogo
The Last Blade: Beyond The Destiny possui alguns modos de jogos liberados desde o início e alguns extras como Minigames e Gallery são liberados jogando partidas.
Abaixo vamos passar pelos principais modos com um breve descritivo de cada um deles.
Story: A campanha clássica do jogo onde é possível acompanhar o andamento da trama. Antes de cada luta é possível ver uma pequena cena e alguns diálogos entre os personagens. De cara temos 9 lutadores disponíveis para serem escolhidos e mais são liberados com horas de jogo. É o clássico modo tradicional onde é necessário vencer 6 lutas para enfim enfrentar o chefe final e finalizar a campanha com cada um dos personagens.
Survival: Lutas com diversos oponentes de apenas 1 Round Cada. O objetivo aqui é derrotar a maior quantidade de inimigos utilizando uma única barra de energia. A cada vitória uma pequena porcentagem da sua vida é reestabelecida. Durante as lutas, pequenas missões são apresentadas ao jogador e concluir cada uma delas garante uma quantidade de pontos extra.
Time Attack: Vença o maior número de oponentes dentro de 60 segundos. Aqui a sua vida não é recuperada.
Vs. Play: Opção para 2 jogadores se enfrentar em uma batalha convencional.
Trainning: O clássico laboratório onde é possível testar livremente os ataques e identificar qual é o que causa mais dano, além de treinar aquele combo sinistro para aplicar durante as lutas.
Gallery: Liberada após terminar o modo história aqui é possível gastar os pontos acumulados com as partidas nos mais diversos modos, para desbloquear finais, artes e história dos personagens. Um grande atrativo que garante um pouco do fator Replay.
Gráficos e Sons
Precisamos de um pouco de cautela ao analisar esses aspectos, uma vez que precisamos nos ater ao fato de ser um jogo de 20 anos e feito para um console portátil. Sendo assim é óbvio que o game possui diversas limitações.
Considerando a proposta original podemos dizer que a parte visual é bastante competente. Temos personagens marcantes, carismáticos, cheios de personalidade e muito bem representado com a pouca quantidade de pixel disponível na tela do Neo Geo Pocket.
O destaque fica por conta das pequenas imagens nas Cutscenes que são muito bem trabalhadas e conseguem posicionar o jogador quanto ao enredo.
As músicas também foram bem escolhidas e as mais dramáticas soam melhor ao meu ouvido, uma vez que a limitação de som realmente era um complicador. Não chega a ser ruim, mas os barulhos estridentes clássicos dos 8 Bits as vezes podem incomodar depois de algumas horas.
Veredito
The Last Blade: Beyond The Destiny me surpreendeu positivamente. Comecei a jogar com um pouco de receio de ser simples demais, mas acabei fisgado pelo gameplay complexo e as variações de comandos durante a ação.
Com a mecânica semelhante ao Street Fighter para os golpes especiais e com toda a estratégia do combate baseada em Parry e contra-ataque Last Blade deve agradar a maioria dos jogadores que apreciam um bom jogo de luta.
Obviamente as limitações do portátil da SNK cobra o seu preço. Os personagens parecem um pouco travados e as vezes não respondem no tempo desejado por conta da limitação das animações.
Contudo, considerando todas as limitações da época The Last Blade: Beyond The Destiny consegue surpreender e não deixa de ser uma ótima adição à biblioteca do Nintendo Switch.
